History & Tradition

To enter Lauberhof is to step into living history. For over 850 years this farm has stood in the quiet Moosalbtal valley – older than the municipality of Trippstadt itself, older than many castles in the region. The murmur of the Moosalbe, the scent of the Lauberwald forest and the peace of the secluded valley accompany guests today just as they once accompanied the Cistercian monks who settled here in the 12th century.
The farm complex comprises three buildings that have grown into a harmonious ensemble over the centuries. Our holiday home – House No. 1 – was built around 1820 and carefully renovated in 2016: original beams, natural wood details and the old stair railing were preserved, while the kitchen, bathrooms and technology were modernised. Next door stands the original farmhouse (No. 2), which was farmed until the 1990s, and House No. 3 with its listed baking oven from 1886 – a quiet witness to traditional craftsmanship. Since 1841 the Schwaab family has lived here without interruption, tending the farm with dedication and enabling guests to experience an authentic, unspoilt encounter with the Palatinate landscape.
Lauberhof is situated in the upper Moosalbtal valley, embedded in the 905-hectare Lauberwald forest, in the heart of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Palatinate Forest–Northern Vosges.
Historical Milestones
1174
First documented as the estate 'Loyben' – donated by Count Ludwig von Saarwerden to the Cistercian monastery of Eußerthal in the presence of Emperor Frederick Barbarossa. Lauberhof is thus more than 110 years older than the municipality of Trippstadt.
1634
Destroyed by imperial troops during the Thirty Years' War. The farm lay deserted for almost 80 years – it was not until 1713 that charcoal burners, woodcutters and immigrants from Switzerland and Tyrol returned.
1841
The Schwaab family moves in and has farmed Lauberhof ever since – a continuity of over 180 years.
1886
Construction of the listed freestanding baking oven on the neighbouring property (House No. 3) – today entered in the listed buildings register of Rhineland-Palatinate.
1886 – 2016
Over two centuries the residents continually adapted the farm to the needs of their time: stalls for cattle, pigs or chickens were added and converted, tools and machinery were introduced. Sanitary facilities evolved gradually – from simple outdoor toilets to fully equipped bathrooms. Each generation left its mark and shaped the ensemble visible today.
2016
Careful full renovation of House No. 1: historic fabric preserved, modern comfort installed – Lauberhof becomes a holiday home.
